‘Rookie of the Year’ Returns to Westmont Park District Ball Field

rookie of the year westmont

Almost 30 years to the release date of the hit, ‘Rookie of the Year,’ Westmont Park District brings the movie that once filmed on the baseball field in Veterans Memorial Park, back to the exact same spot.

Friday, July 16, 8:30pm at Veterans Memorial Park

As we celebrate Westmont’s 100th year, there seemed no better time to reminisce on some of our more memorable events, one of which being, the filming of ‘Rookie of the Year!’ The movie will be shown as part of our free, Movies Under the Stars Series on Friday, July 16, on the baseball field itself at Veterans Memorial Park. Gates to the field will open at 7pm for attendees to find the perfect seats for blankets and lawn chairs, and a few food vendors, including Westmont’s own Dope Sandwich, will be present throughout the evening.

Sit in the outfield, park yourself on the baseline, or sit in the stands (where some residents sat and appeared in the film!). Grab a sandwich or enjoy some baseball park concessions, available for purchase from Westmont Youth Baseball Association. The movie will start around dusk, 8:30pm.

Parking will be available around the Westmont Community Center, off Linden Ave., and the surrounding neighborhood streets. Don’t miss this unique chance to see our famous field on the big screen, while sitting in the field itself!

If you’re not convinced yet, maybe a word from Henry Rowengartner will help….
